Richard Henry Johnson
Richard Henry Johnson, 85, of Bedford, passed on to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at his residence. He was born October 9, 1927 in Bedford County, a son of the late Nellie C. Johnson and Joseph B. Johnson.
Richard was a member of Radford Baptist Church in Moneta, VA, for 30 plus years. He served his country in the United States Air Force and was also a retiree of Piedmont Label. He loved reading his Bible daily, trout fishing, and deer hunting. He treasured his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they were \"the light of his life\".
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son, Richard H. Johnson, Jr.; brother, Tommy Johnson; and sister, Helen J. Lacy. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 66 years, Avis B. Johnson; daughters, Jan J. Johnston and husband, Rick, of Moneta, Teresa J. Key and husband, Dennis, of Bedford; two grandchildren, Amy J. Jackson and husband, Johnathan, Jenny J. Hiner and husband, Tim; five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Emma, and Clay Jackson, Andrew and Reilly Hiner; a brother, Ray B. Johnson and wife, Peggy, of Charlottesville; and numerous special nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM, Monday, November 5, 2012, at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Karl Hofheinz and Rev. H. Vernon DeLong officiating. Burial will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 4, 2012, from 4 until 6 PM, at Tharp Funeral Home.
