Richard Hollen Collins
Richard Hollen Collins, 75, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away February 6, 2012. Born March 14, 1936 in Cumberland, MD, he was a son of the late Audra Fowler Collins and Dorothy Hollen Collins.
Richard attended Terra Alta High School, Terra Alta, WV, Duke University, and graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor\"™s Degree in Sociology. He also served in the Army Reserves. He loved high school football and small town sports and was a loyal fan of Duke basketball. Richard retired as groundskeeper at Lochwood Hall, Goode, VA.
In addition to his parents, Audra and Dorothy Collins, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Michael Collins.
He is survived by his loving companion of 22 years, Patricia A. Beach, six daughters; Susan and C.H. Major John Sackett of Clovis NM, Margaret and Douglas Leepa of Hollywood, MD, Cathy and Steve Dalwig of Sykesville, MD, Betsy and Neils Jorgensen of Burgaw, NC, Dottie Collins of Union Bridge, MD, and Sarah and Bob Eckles of Columbia, MD; 22 grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Judy Collins of Goode, VA.

A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Chapel, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:30 to 2:00PM. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, 434-237-9424, is assisting the family.
