Richard J. “Dick” Ervin, 84, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, May 10, 2021. He was the husband of the late Sheryl Hodges Ervin.
Dick grew up in Greencastle, Pa. and graduated from East Stroudsburg State Teachers College. He later received his master’s degree from American University. Along with being an Eagle Scout, he proudly served our country in the Air Force Reserves. Although he started his career off as a gym teacher, Dick spent most of his working life as an elementary school principal in Montgomery County, Maryland.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Gregg Owen Ervin.
He is survived by his daughter: Makena Yarbrough and her husband Charles, grandchildren, Lily and Sam Yarbrough, Russell Meadows, and his wife Sarah, great- grandsons, Finn and Connor Meadows, brother, Frank Ervin; sister-in-law, Brenda Ervin ; brother-in-law, Ronnie Hodges and his wife Caroline and many nieces and nephews.
Dick loved the great outdoors and had a very special place in his heart for Lockings Hunt Club and Monhegan Island, Maine. Golf became his favorite pastime after he retired along with traveling to many countries around the world and spending quality time with his kids and grandkids. Dick was everyone’s advocate and always tried to help others when he could. He was a great kind man who will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The family will hold a private memorial service.
