Richard “Dick” Steven Kordos, age 75, of Lynchburg, died on Monday, October 10, 2016, at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born on July 2, 1941, Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Helen Kordos of Detroit, Mich. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy Charbonneau Kordos, daughter Melora Kordos and partner David Grossall of Lynchburg, his brother Ron (Betty) Kordos of Flowery Branch, Ga., and many cousins.
He grew up in St. Anthony’s parish in Detroit where he discovered his love for theatre.
Dick received his B.A. from University of Detroit and his M.A. in Theatre from Wayne State University. He then became reacquainted with Nan Charbonneau from his U of D theatre days. They began working together in Indiana at a summer stock theatre and were married a year later in 1968. His career in the performing arts spanned almost 50 years where he was the Executive Director of 5 theatres and owned a film casting company, Kordos & Charbonneu Casting, for 20 years. His final position was at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lynchburg, where he retired in 2012.
A memorial service to celebrate Dick’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at 6p.m. at The Academy Center for the Arts at 519 Commerce Street, Lynchburg,VA 24504. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Richard Kordos Theatre Scholarship Fund at the Academy Center for the Arts.
