Richard Louis Boothe

Richard Louis Boothe, 68, of Lynchburg, VA, went to be with his Lord Friday, February 8, 2013, after battling lung disease for several years. Born in Batavia, NY, on August 27, 1944, he was the son of the late Cleon Laverne Boothe and the late Neva Edythe Rutherford Boothe Everett.

In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by two sisters: Beverly Boothe Kirst and Sheila Boothe Vagg.

Rick is survived by his wife of eighteen years, Elizabeth Wilhelm Boothe; a daughter Bethany Boothe Lay and husband Christopher of Yorktown, VA; a son Nathan Wade Boothe and wife Adrienne of Leesburg, VA; and their mother, Barbara Crandall Boothe; four grandsons: Noah, Tyler, Lucas, and Samuel Boothe; one granddaughter, Kristin Lay; two sisters: Luetta Boothe McColl of Pavilion, NY, and Bonnie Boothe Ryder of Albion, NY., and numerous nephews and nieces.

Rick was a graduate of Le Roy High School, Le Roy, NY, Erie Community College, Willamsville, NY, and Baptist Bible College, Springfield, MO. He later earned a B.S. degree in Religion and M.A. degree in Counseling from Liberty University.

Early in his career, he worked for Kodak in Rochester, NY, then as minister at West Jackson Baptist Church in Millerton, PA. Later he served as Senior Saints pastor and pastoral counselor at Thomas Road Baptist Church. Afterwards, he joined the staff of Central Virginia Community Services where he was a mental health therapist, program manager, and mentor to many fellow employees. He retired from CVCS in 2009.

He was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and previously served as Sunday school teacher and elder at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian, as lay pastor of Coolwell Presbyterian, and as pulpit supply at other local Presbyterian churches.

For Rick, life was an adventure. He loved the excitement of new places and new experiences. He enjoyed traveling and taking cruises with his wife Liz, sharing a love of photography with his daughter Bethany, and trying out the latest technology gadgets with his son, Nathan. He treasured his role as \"Grandpa\" to his five beloved grandchildren.   A man of faith and firm belief, he was committed to sharing the Word of God, both in the pulpit and in everyday life.

The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, VA on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. A memorial service will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church, Madison Heights, VA on Thursday February 14, 2013 at noon, with the Rev. Jeff Porter officiating and Rev.
