Richard Theodore Poltar, 80, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023.  He was the son of the late Stephen Poltar and Jean Delores Kowalsky.

He was born on February 8, 1943, in Pennsylvania. He attended school at Brookfield High School in Ohio, then attended Penn State University for two years. Richard thoroughly enjoyed his work at Buncher Rail Car Company for over 40 years.

He was a member of Quaker Memorial Church of Lynchburg. He grew up in the catholic church and proudly served as an altar boy. Along with spending time with the love of his life, Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. He was a long time Virginia Tech football fan. He also enjoyed the beach, traveling, and vacationing at Ocean Isle, North Carolina.

Richard is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Susan Crank Poltar; daughter, Debbie Hubbard of Ohio; son, Kenneth Poltar of Ohio; grandchildren, Quintin Hubbard and wife, Chloe, of Ohio, Alex Dezarn and husband, Ethan, of Texas; great-grandson, Leo of Texas; siblings, Katherine Chess and husband, Ray of California, Robert “Bob” Poltar of Virginia; brother-in-law, Bill Crank of Virginia; niece, Michele Finley and husband, Bill and family; nephew, Daniel Poltar and wife, Jessica and family; caretaker, Stephanie Cannon, whom Richard adored; and many loving friends in the community.

In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his brother, Larry Poltar of Ohio and his beloved childhood friend, Paul “Scooter” Skertic.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 12:00 PM. There will be a visitation held one hour prior beginning at 11:00 AM. The family is welcoming friends at the home at this time.
