Richard “Dick” Preston Galloway passed away on May 24, 2023, in Lynchburg, VA.
Born on September 10, 1929, Dick grew up in Dewittville, NY on Chautauqua Lake. He was the third son of LaVerne and Jessie Galloway. He was a graduate of Mayville (NY) Central High School and the Rochester Institute of Technology. He was a proud Korean War veteran serving the U.S. Air Force and later had a career of more than 20 years with the Navy Finance Center before enjoying retirement. He was an accomplished author, talented painter, avid baseball fan and golfer. For 42 years, he was married to Euphemia “Faye” Wilson of Edinburgh, Scotland. He later married Janice Shepardson Lipsey of Bemus Point, NY.
Dick is survived by his daughters Michelle (Kenneth, Jr.) Harris, of Madison Heights, VA, and Allison (David Rife) Galloway of Alexandria, VA, his brother Merton Galloway of St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren Brandon Newcomb of Huddleston, VA, Timothy (Delilah) Nicholson of Kearneysville, WV, and Lauren Newcomb of Rustburg, VA; great-grandchildren Darren Nicholson and Taya Nicholson; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives; step-children Margie (John) Weise of Mayville NY and Daniel (Rhonda) Lipsey of Vine Grove, KY, step-grandchildren Kenneth (Jessica) Harris III, Ashleigh (Ryan) Conlon, Jared Harris, Bridget (Cody) Shevlin, Brittany (John) Stow, Jerimie (Lauren) Rothwell, Josh (Taylor) Lipsey, and Christopher Lipsey.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Harriett, his brother Harrison, and his wives.
A celebration of Dick’s life will be held at the Old City Cemetery’s Scatter Garden in Lynchburg, VA on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 4 p.m. Another service is being planned to be held in Bemus Point, NY later this year.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to VFW Post 557 in Bemus Point, NY or to the National Federation of the Blind.
