Richard Ruby Henty

Richard Ruby Henty, 92, of Moneta, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 21, 1924 in Oneida, NY. He was a son of the late Ralph Henry Henty and Olive Ruby Henty. In addition to his parents Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Vivian Adele Kingsley Henty and a brother, Jack Henty.

Richard served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. He retired as president from the Oneida Savings Bank, Oneida, NY.  Richard was an accomplished BRIDGE player as well. He had just received his Silver Master Award. He was also a member of the Smith Mountain Lake Harmeneers. He enjoyed square dancing, boating, spending time with his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his sister Jean Palmiter of Hamilton, NY, Bud Henty and wife Jean of Pinehurst, NC; two children Robert C. Henty and wife Vicky of California, MD, Carol H. Sowers and husband, Donald of Wirtz, VA; two grandchildren, Sarah Henty Sprigings and Ashley Henty Miller; two step-grandchildren, Angela Sowers and Leslie Sowers; one great-grandchild Simon Matthew Sprigings and two step-great-grandchild, Charles Heath and Kaylynn Wilson.

A memorial service and celebration of Richard’s life will be conducted at two pm on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Rocky Mount Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1535 North Main Street, Rocky Mount, VA.
