Richard Thompson Thacker 53, died peacefully at home after a courageous battle with colon cancer on October 16.
Richard was born September 1, 1960, at Crawford W. Long Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, GA, to Delia (Elaine) and the late Brandon Thacker, Jr.
Surviving are his mother, Delia (Elaine), two children: Brandy J. Purvis and her husband, Steven, of Lynchburg, and Todd A. Thacker, of Lynchburg; a sister Dianne Hammock and her husband, Michael, of Evington, his soul mate Jo Jo McDaniel, five nephews, one niece, a special young man, Brandon, and his second family, employees of Cooke\"™s Glass Service, Inc.
Richard was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School, and a member of the United States Army National Guard from 1979 to 1986. He worked for Cooke\"™s Glass Service, Inc. Richard was a man of faith, substantial courage and a member of the United Methodist Church.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Centra Hospice, 2097 Langhorne Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, VA on Friday, October 18, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A Celebration of Richards life will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2013 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carl Weiser officiating. At Richard\"™s request the family will be at his mother\"™s home, 516 Woodhaven Drive, Lynchburg.
