Richard Wayne Irvin, 60, of Lynchburg died Tuesday, August 25, 2015. He was the loving husband of Susan Vest Irvin for 42 years.

Born in Lynchburg on January 10, 1955, Ricky was a son of the late Jesse Elsworth Irvin and the late Dolly Boaze Irvin.

In addition to his parents, Ricky was preceded by a brother, Leonard Elsworth Irvin.

In addition to his wife, Ricky is survived by his children: Melanie Irvin Son and her husband, Bryan S. Son, and Richard Wayne Irvin, Jr. and wife, Stacy Morton Irvin; brothers: James Calvin Irvin and his wife, Hopie, Jesse William Irvin and his wife, Barbara Irvin; sisters: Sharon Irvin Hughes and her husband, Randy, Sandra Irvin Lang and her husband, Dennis, Carolyn Irvin and her fiancé, Dallas (Frog) Hodnett, Roger Lee Irvin and his fiancé, Jessica Hargis, four grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Ricky was a loving and protective husband and father with a kind heart and competitive spirit. He would help anyone and wore his heart on his sleeve. He will be sadly missed.

A visitation will be held Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A celebration of Ricky’s life will be held Friday, August 28, 2015 at 1:00 pm in Clearview Baptist Church, with Pastor J. D. Critcher and Pastor Don Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
