Richard William Robertson, Sr.

Richard William Robertson, Sr., 75, of 818 Suburban Rd, Lynchburg, died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, August 23, 2020 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Marlene Smith Robertson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and his sister Linda Beckner and brother Curtis Beckner.

Born in Roanoke Va., he was the son of the late William Robertson and the late Frances Beckner. He was employed at the Archer Creek Foundry in the maintenance department for 34 years before retiring in 2005 and served in the United States Air Force before being honorably discharged on July 12,1962. He was an avid fisherman and loved Nags Head.

He is survived by two children, Richard William Robertson, Jr (Ricky) of Rustburg, Tammy Robertson Goff (Keith) of Appomattox; five brothers, Jimmy Robertson (Diane), Michael Robertson (Brenda), Lindsay Beckner (Debra) and David Beckner (Wanda) all of Lynchburg, Jerry Beckner from Campbell Co.; four sisters, Joan Dunford of Maryland, Sally Lunn of Pennsylvania, Nancy B. Williams of Campbell County, and Terry Beckner of Rustburg; six grandchildren, Christina Holmes (Scott) of Amherst, Robert Coffman (Tabitha) of Rustburg, Stacey West (Jason) of Lynchburg, Rachel Penny (McKenzie) of Georgia, Cody Ryan Ennis (McKenzie) of Oklahoma and Amber Brooke Dove of Buena Vista; two great grandsons, Aiden West of Lynchburg and Arlo Holmes of Amherst; three great granddaughters, McKayla Penny of Georgia, Tynlee Coffman of Rustburg and Addison West of Lynchburg. He also had a very special little girl, Payton Schell of Evington, that he also considered a great granddaughter. He had numerous nieces and nephews along with many friends. Bentley and Richard were best friends and Bentley never left his side the whole time he was sick

The family would like to say a very special thank you to Centra Hospice, Stroobants Cardiovascular, Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center and Lynchburg Pulmonary Associates for the care given during his illness.

Last but not least, the family would like to say a very special thank you to his wonderful niece, Lisa Windle, whom he also considered like a daughter and his sister Nancy Williams for taking exceptional care of him from the very beginning to the very end of his illness. They both sacrificed very much of their personal lives to take care of him and did an excellent job of doing so. The family truly appreciates everything they both did. Exceptional caregivers!

He will truly be missed by all of his friends and family. He did not know a stranger.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Blvd, Memphis TN, 38105 in honor of Amber Brooke Dove.

The memorial service will be held at a later date.
