Robbie Carter Edgemon, 85, passed away at Fairmont Crossing in Amherst, Va. on January 6, 2016.
She was preceded in death by her parents, whom she took care of for many years: Robert and Ossie Carter; she was also predeceased by a sister, Marie Harris.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, William Edgemon, Sr.; her son William Edgemon, Jr.; two sisters, Mahala Babcock, Mary Cumbie and husband, Nelton; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Jenkins and Betty L. Edgemon.
She graduated valedictorian from James Madison University. Her teaching career spanned 33 years in the Martinsville and Newport News school systems. She also enjoyed cooking, and was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, where she volunteered.
Visitation will be at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Amherst on January 11, 2016, starting at 12 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Nancy Johnson officiating, followed by interment at Presbyterian Cemetery, Lynchburg.
In lieu of flowers, a prayer and donation may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 401 N. Main St., Amherst, Va. 24521.
