Robert Allen Turner, 79, of Lynchburg, VA, died Saturday, April 06, 2013. He was the husband of Patricia Deyerle Turner for 56 years.
Born Friday, April 07, 1933 in Manassas, VA, Robert was a son of the late Laney Oscar Turner and Rema Slusher Turner.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a sister Joyce Ann Turner and two brothers: Jack Marian Turner and Albert Laney \"Jim\" Turner.
In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his two children: Greg Turner and his wife, Jeannie, of Monroe, and Robin Muddiman and her husband, Steve, of Lynchburg; five grandchildren: Drew Turner, of Monoe, Cortney Muddiman, of Lynchburg, Megan Turner, of Madison Heights, Christian Muddiman, of Lynchburg, and Jeanette Muddiman, of Lynchburg; a great grandson Bransyn Proctor, of Monroe; a sister in law, Barbara Turner, of Buchanan, and a brother in-law, Ira Deyerle, of Salem, brothers and sisters in law; Bob and Sherry May of Abingdon; Norm and Joyce Machette of Haden Heights, NJ; Walter E and Elaine Deyerle of Jenners Pond, Pa; and Ms. Laverne Deyerle of Salem, Va.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert proudly served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps during Korea. He was retired from Babcock & Wilcox. He was a 48 year member of Timberlake United Methodist Church.
Bob served 33 years with B&W, later Areva as a physicist and then as a project manager for the Owners Group. Bob was a Roanoke College graduate and also attended the University of Florida for graduate studies. He enjoyed physics, reading, camping, and gardening. He always had a keen sense of humor and always saw the funny side of life. He loved not only his family, but his dogs. He was often seen at Famous Anthony\"™s in the morning.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Sherwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Willie Butler officiating.
