Robert “Bob” Arthur Johnston

Robert “Bob” Arthur Johnston, 84, of Lynchburg, Va., passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016, surrounded by his family. Robert was the loving husband of Joyce Mueller Johnston for fifty-seven years. He was born September 30, 1931 in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of  the late Walter Howard and Mary Stoddard Johnston. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Johnston. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He later achieved the position of mechanical projects leader for General Electric and retired from there after thirty-five years of service.

In addition to his wife, left to cherish Robert’s memory are his daughter, Kathleen Dalton and husband, Jamie, of Rustburg, Va.; sons, William Johnston and wife, Tanya, of Rustburg, Va., Thomas Johnston and wife, Debby, of Houston, Texas, Michael Johnston and wife, Christina, of Lynch Station, Va.; sister, Catherine Moore, of Indiantown, Fla.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas More on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Monsignor Michael D. McCarron officiating. The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date in Culpepper National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Centra Hospice 2097 Langhorne Rd, Lynchburg, Va. 24501.
