Robert “Bob” Charles Dillard, 77, of Lynchburg, VA, went to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. He was the husband Lawana Parker Dillard for 22 incredible years.
Born Saturday, March 4, 1944 in Petersburg, VA, Robert was a son of the late James Thomas Dillard and the late Virginia Hedgebeth Dillard.
In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by two daughters, Robin Steele and her husband Lowell, and Mary (Beth) Somerville; three grandchildren, Darren Steele, Jessica Steele and Cara Somerville; a brother, Sonny and his wife Margaret; and two sisters, Joyce Branzelle, and Martha Church and her husband Lee; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, William Branzelle.
Robert was retired from England’s Stove Works and was a member of Tree of Life Ministries. He loved classic cars, traveling and fishing, he especially loved his fishing adventures with his nephew Robert “Tater”. Robert began each day in time with the Lord, including meditating on Psalm 91. He was a student of prophecy and reminded everyone to “keep their eyes on Israel” if they want to know what time it is. Above all this, it was Robert’s desire that no one depart this life apart from the salvation of Jesus Christ, and when given the opportunity to witness, he usually began with 1John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A celebration of Robert’s life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Pastor Mike Dodson and Rev. Johnny Hartless officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
