Robert \"Bob\" Kenneth Kennedy of Lynchburg, VA, went to be with his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, August 18, 2010.
Bob was born in Slate Mills in Rappahannock County, VA. He was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He served as a 1st Lt. in the Hawk Missile Unit of the Air Defense Artillery Division in El Paso, TX. After his military service Bob held several jobs including 20 years at B&W Nuclear Power Generation Division in Lynchburg, VA, spending his final years as Manager of the Systems Design & Instrumentation and Engineering Unit.
Bob had an infectious smile, wonderful since of humor, and was loved by all who knew him. He was a positive and happy person who enjoyed being with people, helping others, and giving back to the community. Bob worked with Habitat for Humanity for over a decade, was a member of the Lynchburg Toastmasters, and was also a long time member of the Lynchburg Exchange Club, serving a term as Exchange Club President. He enjoyed golf, traveling, and spending time with his family. Bob loved and faithfully served Beulah Baptist Church for many years including two mission trips to Thailand.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Harriet, of 47 years, daughter Vicki Whitley and husband Jeff of New Freedom, Pennsylvania, son Doug Kennedy and wife Kristy of Lynchburg, Virginia, granddaughters Taylor and Emily Kennedy, sister Betty Coates and husband John, as well as many other relatives. His sister Jean Minnis, brothers Charles and Douglas Kennedy, mother Goldie Jenkins Kennedy and father Waver Kennedy preceded Bob in death.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home of Lynchburg. A celebration of Bob\"™s life will be held at Beulah Baptist Church Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., with graveside service to follow at the church cemetery.
