Robert "Bobby" Layburn Beard

Robert “Bobby” Layburn Beard 73 of Bedford passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 19, 1943 in Lynchburg, VA. He was a son of the late Wilbur Alexander Beard and Gladys Virginia Holdren Beard. In addition to his parents Bobby was preceded in death by his brother, Aubrey Linwood Beard.

Bobby was a retiree of Georgia Pacific Paper Mill in Big Island with 40 plus years of Service. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He served his country in the United States Air Force.

Bobby is survived by his loving wife, Mollie Dooley Beard; a son, Robert “Todd” Beard and wife, Sylvia of Forest; a daughter, Beverly Annette McFaden and husband, Beverly of Brookneal; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Abigale Grace Beard, Isabella Adalynn Faith Beard, Robert Wayne Garrett Beard, Aubrey Grayson Isaiah Beard and Lydia Collett Piper Beard; also numerous nieces nephews and so many friends.

A celebration of Bobby’s Life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Earl Ragland officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
