Robert “Bobby” Lee Parker, 83, of Gladys, VA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 24, 2025. Born February 7, 1941, in Hampton, Va, he was a son of James C. Parker Sr. and Mannie Woody Moyers. He was twice married, first to Phyllis P. Burchette and later to Judy C. Parker for 47 years until her passing in 2024.
He is survived by his son, Maurice Parker and his wife Pam; daughter, Lawana P. Dillard; grandson, Robert Parker; his brother, James “Jimmy” Parker, Jr.; stepbrother, Lee Simmons; stepsister, Barbara S. Copley; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are his fur children, Chopper, Nala, Opie, Clyde and Nettie.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bobby was preceded in death by his son in law, Bob Dillard; former wife, Phyllis Burchette; sister-in-law, Daphaney Parker; stepfather, Boyd Moyers Jr.; stepmother, Martha Parker; and stepbrothers, Butch Simmons and Glen Simmons.
Bobby retired from a long career as a self-employed concrete finisher and was a member of Winfall Baptist Church. He loved NASCAR and spent many years competing on the local, and not so local tracks and was an avid trout fisherman. He had a soft spot for animals and rescued too many to count over the years.
We would like to thank our extended family at Tate Springs Health and Rehab and Heartland Hospice for the exemplary care they provided in his final weeks. We would also like to thank JC, Dana, and Shana Lewis, Steve and Nancy Towery, and Lea Stratton for their years of friendship to both him and Judy, and their unwavering support during his illness.
There will be a private memorial service at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Friends of Campbell County Animal Control.
Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
