Robert Carroll Staton, 81, died December 27, 2017. He was born in Lynchburg on May 2, 1936 to Emmett Rudell and Margaret Beard Staton.
He graduated from E.C. Glass High School, Central Virginia Community College, and Lynchburg College with a degree in Business. He was employed by Lynchburg Foundry for 38 years and by Central Virginia Trucking as Vice President-President for 15 years. He served in the United States Army Reserve for 11 years.
Robert was married to Pearl Wiley (Pat) Staton for 61 years. He is also survived by his daughter Lisa Staton Humphrey (David); grandson Steven Humphrey (Amanda); great granddaughter Savannah Humphrey; brothers Clyde Staton, Dennis Staton, and James Cyrus; sisters Barbara Carrico, Elsie Johns, Jean Mayberry, Virginia Dalton, and Donna Staton. A sister, Peggy Henderson, preceded him.
He loved his family, enjoyed John Wayne movies, playing golf with his grandson, and watching Yankees and Redskins ballgames. He was a member of the Fort Hill United Methodist Church for years serving on the worship and council committees. He served as President of Lynchburg Foundry Credit Union for 15 years. He was President of Central Virginia Chapter Credit Union and President of the International Management Council. He was a member of American Legion Post 16.
A service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Hill United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 30, 2017, with Rev. Ron Litten and Rev. Janet Hawkins officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
