Robert Douglas Craig, 59, of Bedford passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015 at his residence after a very courageous battle with cancer. Doug was born on January 13, 1956 in Richmond, VA. A son of the late Charles Edgar Craig and Margaret McCauley Craig. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a half-sister, Anya Craig.
Doug served his country in the United States Army having served two terms in Vietnam. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing the guitar, card games, and especially solitaire. He also loved Harley Davidson motorcycles. He was a jack of all trades, a craftsman, handyman, and loved working with his hands.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Gloria Jean Craig; one son, Brandon Dale Craig and his wife, Chelsie; 5 step-children, Ronnie Hodges and his wife, Hope, Steven Hodges, Kimberly Jenkins, Rebecca Etzler and James Franklin Cook, Jr.; three grandchildren, Corbin Dallas Craig, Connor Devlin Craig and Jadyn Christine Craig; eleven step-grandchildren, Corey, Colton, Carly, Jason, Jessie, Daniel, Alex, Christopher, Sara, Joey and Gracie; two step great-grandchildren, Kaydence and Matthew; two brothers, Charles Craig, Jr. and Thomas Craig; one sister, Kathy Craig Engler and her husband, Donald; half-sister, Bettina Craig; two step brothers, John Gundaker and his wife, Maria and Brett Gundaker and wife, Marbely; also numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be conducted at Church of Latter Day Saints (Longwood Ave.) on October 24, 2015 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford is assisting the family.
