Robert E. Maxey, Sr., 90, of Westminster Canterbury, Lynchburg, formerly of Rustburg, died on Thursday, December 11, 2014. He was born on June 8, 1924, in Campbell County a son of the late David Darnell Maxey and the late Lucy Monroe Maxey. He was the husband of the late Nellie Driskill Maxey. At the time of Nell’s death in 2008, they had been married for 58 years.
Robert was a life-long member of Diamond Hill Presbyterian Church where he served for many years as an Elder. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps and a retired merchant, cattle farmer and rural letter carrier.
He is survived by two sons and their families; Robert “Buddy” Maxey, Jr. and his wife, Martha, of Rustburg and their children, Hannah Maxey and Adam Maxey both of Lynchburg; and Keith Maxey and his wife, Karen, of Rustburg and their children, Heather Maxey of Lynchburg and Kyle Maxey and his fiancée, Ashley Brickner, both of FL; one sister, Nancy Maxey Tabor of Concord; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by one sister, Mary Maxey Tanner and her husband, David L. Tanner; one brother, David Monroe Maxey and his wife, Evelyn Tanner Maxey; and brother-in-law, J. D. Tabor.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2014, at Diamond Hill Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. Roger Powell. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
