Robert Edward Taylor, Jr.

Robert Edward Taylor Jr., of Appomattox, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

 

He was born in Darby, Pennsylvania a son of the late Robert E. Taylor Sr. and the late Thelma R. Taylor.

 

\"Bob\" was retired from Babcock & Wilcox after 38 years as a Procurement Engineer and had served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He attended Virginia Tech and later graduated from Virginia State University. He served as president of Boonsboro Ruritan Club, Region 2 Director of the Virginia Bass Federation, Boy Scout leader in Madison Heights, a member of the Lucky 6 Fishing Club, and a member of Appomattox Hunt Club.

He was an avid sportsman who loved every kind of fishing including trout, deep sea and bass. He competed in many regional tournaments and holds numerous awards for size and weight of fish caught. He managed to find time to serve as a professional fishing guide in both fresh and salt water settings and drew many out-of-state clients. In addition he loved to hunt game, primarily deer and wild turkey. Over the years, Bob went on many hunting and fishing excursions across the nation and thoroughly loved an annual outing with friends to the Salmon River in New York. He recently established a group Archery for Christ at Izaak Walton Lake and has taught many enthusiasts his skills with a bow and arrow.  Other activities that drew much fascination from friends and enthusiasts were crafting his own lures and ammunition. Other hobbies Bob was passionate about were collecting Nascar memorabilia, coins and stamps. Over his lifetime, he had many pets including dogs, cats, birds, turkeys, squirrels, snakes and turtles, all of which he loved dearly. Most special were his golden and black labs, Boo and Samantha

 

He is survived by his son, Robert Edward Taylor, III of Palm Desert, CA, a brother: Richard A. Taylor, of Casa Grande, AZ, a sister: Linda Carol Nicely-Taylor of Lynchburg, his former wife: Lynda Taylor of Appomattox and cousins: Eleanor Taylor of Mountain View, CA, Barbara Cline of Columbus , OH., and a host of other family members.

 

The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, Virginia.
