Robert “Bob” F. Williams, Sr. 80, of Bedford, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at his residence. Born May 13, 1936 in Portsmouth, VA, he was a son of the late William H. Williams and Grace St. Clair Williams. In addition to his parents Bob was also preceded in death by a brother, Billy A. Elliott.
Bob retired from the United States Air Force with 20 years of service. He later retired from the V.A. Medical Center in Salem with over 20 years of service as a Nursing Assistant. Bob was also a member of the American Legion Post #54 and he was also a member of Word of Life Evangelical Church.
Bob is survived by his wife, Doris Marie Gray Williams; a daughter , Angel M. Williams Hurd and her husband, George B. “Ben” Hurd; a son, Robert F. “Bob” Williams, Jr. and former wife, Pam Williams; a sister-in-law, Frances Underwood and her husband, James; brother-in-law, Randy C. Gray and his wife, Barbara; seven grandchildren, George B. “Jim” Hurd, III, Kristin H. Olsen and husband, Blake, Robert A. Hurd and wife, Chelsea, Jacob B. Hurd and wife, Brittany, Brooke A.M. Williams and Fiancé, Stanley Coffer, Cassidy B. Williams and Taren Hazelrigg Little and husband, Jeff; 4 great-grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews;
The family would like to say a special Thank You to the staff of Bedford Centra Hospice and his special friends and caregivers, James and Frances Underwood, Boyid and Bobbie Ervin and Rhonda Epps for their care during this most difficult of times. A celebration of Bob’s life will be conducted at 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in the Tharp Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David A. Whitehurst officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with military honors. There will be a reception to follow burial at Word of Life Evangelical Church in Bedford.
