Robert Hager Cohernour

Robert Hager Cohernour, 81, of Amherst, Virginia, left this world peacefully at his home on September 17, 2021. He was born June 12, 1940 in Florida City, Florida. He was the son of the late Thomas Bryan Cohernour and Anna Elizabeth Hager Cohernour of Lewisburg, West Virginia.

He graduated from Greenbrier High School in Ronceverte, WVa in the class of 1958. Upon graduation he entered the US Navy. While he was in training and school to become a Weatherman he was appointed as a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps. From there he was flown to Nova Scotia where he boarded his assigned ship called the USS San Pablo, a Geographical survey ship where they tested the air and water, studied the currents, and took bottom samples for science. He spent two years traveling the world and crossed the Arctic and the Equator.

Bob spent his career as a consultant for the shoe industry. He traveled the east coast as well as many foreign countries. He retired in 1999.

Bob was an avid reader and loved to fish with his brothers and his daughters in the Greenbrier River. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Ronceverte, WV. and a former member of the Elon Presbyterian Church in Elon, VA.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years Linda Elmore Cohernour of Amherst, daughters; Toni Hudson (Craig) of Amherst and Kathy Callahan of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren: Nathan Hudson and Emily Hudson of Amherst, Zoe Callahan of Charlotte, NC, and Jessica Phillips (Garrett) of Concord, NC; sisters-in-law: Joanne Reed Cohernour, of Covington, Va, Josephine Mullins and Venecia Arbaugh of Stuarts Draft, Va., Cora Sue Linton (Coy) of Waynesboro, VA; brothers-in-law William Elmore(Diane), John Elmore (JoAnn)of Stuarts Draft, VA., and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding in death are his siblings, a twin sister Virginia P. Cohernour, and brothers James B. Cohernour of Ronceverte, WVa., and William G. Cohernour of White Sulphur Springs, WV. Also, a special best friend “Clifford.”

A memorial service will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights, on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at 3 pm. with Dr. L. Wayne Meredith officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at a later date.
