Robert Henry “Bob” Waugh, Jr., 90, of Lynchburg, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Westminster Canterbury. He was born February 9, 1926 in Bedford County, VA. He was a son of the late Robert Henry Waugh, Sr. and Olive Pace Waugh. He was a graduate of M.E Marcuse High School, in Big Island, VA class of 1943, and, class of 1950 at Virginia Tech, where he matriculated in engineering, became a Golden Hokie and established a VA Tech Scholarship Fund in his name.

Bob loved his family, photography and traveling to every Hokie Football game. He spent most of his 40-year career as a partner and VP of Southern Air, Inc. He was a long time member, served as President, of the Lynchburg Kiwanis Club, where he was instrumental in developing the city-wide recycling program and the Blackwater Creek recreation area that many enjoy today. He maintained a lifelong connection with Kiwanis, serving as Lt. Governor for the state organization.  Bob gave of his time and talents generously with the Central Virginia Training School, Westminster Presbyterian Church as an Deacon and an Elder, Southern Air Inc. PR and many Lynchburg festivals and events.

He had four children and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter ‘Ginny’, Virginia Pace Waugh Cless; He is survived by a son, Robert Henry “Corky” Waugh, III, of Arlington, VA, Robin McKibbon Waugh and her fiancé, Robert Grazioli, of Washington DC and John Wranek Waugh and his wife, Tina and their three children, Nicholas, Lucas and Allison of Beverly, Massachusetts; his sister, Anne (Charles) Winder, and his brother, Russell Waugh and his wife, Betty and many special nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made in his honor to First Presbyterian Church of Lynchburg, VA, Virginia Tech and The Fellowship Fund, Westminster Canterbury, 501 V.E.S. Road, Lynchburg, VA 24503.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 21, 2014 at 2PM at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Peter Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 P.M. at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Dr. Graveside service will be at Big Island Cemetery on Monday at 10AM. Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg is serving the family.
