Robert M. Hitner, 78, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully on Feb. 1, 2014, at Lynchburg General Hospital surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness.
Robert was born on March 31, 1935 in West Conshohocken, PA to the late Harry O. and Lillian M. (Rissell) Hitner.
During his lifetime, he served in the U.S. Air Force, was a former fire chief in South Meriden, CT, enjoyed golf, crossword puzzles and watching football. He was always first to laugh at his own jokes.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn (Quinn) Hitner and was the proud father to Katherine (Carl) Albritton, of Lynchburg, Charlotte Hitner of Virginia Beach and Ricky Hitner of Minnesota. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, brothers James and Donald and sister Lorraine Guarino, all of Pennsylvania, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a daughter Regina R. Hitner and a grandson, Ricky L. Hitner.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Dennis S. Roberts officiating.
