Robert Holloway

Robert Lee Holloway, 79, of Lynchburg died Saturday March 19, 2016 at Duke University Hospital after a short illness.

Robert was born February 16, 1937 in Albuquerque, New Mexico he was the son of the late Ned Alvis Holloway and Lora Marie Branson Holloway. He was also preceded in death by his beloved step-mother Lucille Swank Holloway and his former partner Hiram John Gerber of 40 years.

Robert held a B.A. from the University of New Mexico and a M.S. from the Louisiana State University. He was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon and Beta Phi Mu, honorary library fraternity. He retired from the Hewlett-Woodmere School District Long Island, New York in 1992. In Lynchburg he was employed almost 10 years as a part time Reference Librarian at CVCC.

Robert’s interest in historical preservation brought him to Lynchburg in 1993 when he purchased “Yew Crest” a Greek revival house on Garland Hill. He held several offices in the Garland Hill Neighborhood Association, which included president and chair of the Lynchburg Historical Preservation. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and sang in the choir for many years.

He is survived by his special friend and companion Claude W. Cordle and two standard poodles Mariah and Lance.

Per Robert’s request a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
