Robert Homer Wilson

March 22, 1922 — January 13, 2018

Robert Homer Wilson, 95, died Saturday, January 13, 2018 in Lynchburg, VA.

He was the husband of the late Jean Hilton Wilson, and the son of Royal Homer Wilson and Robbie Ashby Wilson.   Born in the panhandle of Texas, he was the descendant of many colonial Virginia families.

He is survived by a son, Robert Hilton Wilson and wife Ann of Lynchburg; a daughter, Catherine Wilson Day and husband Chris of Richmond; grandchildren Matthew Christopher Day and wife Karen, Sarah Hilton Day and Andrew Howland Day; and great-grandchildren Melina Caroline Day and Iyla Catherine Day Laurel and Noah DePolox; brother David Wilson of Las Vegas, NV; sisters Marion Spear of Denver, CO and Grace Glenn of Napierville, IL.

A retired engineer with Babcock and Wilcox Co., he had degrees from the University of Arkansas and the University of Tennessee.  He was a member of Tau Beta Pi honorary engineering fraternity, Alpha Chi Sigma fraternity, the American Nuclear Society and the Sons of the American Revolution.  He was a veteran of World War II, with service in India, Burma and China.

A person of immense integrity, and a constant religious faith, he is an example to those generations who follow him.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Green and Good Shepard Hospice for the care and compassion they have showed to Bob.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are sent to Patrick Henry Boys Plantation, P. O. Box 1398, Brookneal, VA or to Gentle Shephard Hospice, 6045 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019.

Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA. 24502.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. at  Holy Cross Catholic Church Wednesday, January 17, 2018 with interment to follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Msgn. J. Kenneth Rush as officiant.

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.   Rev. 14:13.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
