Robert Lee "Bob" Edwards

Robert Lee “Bob” Edwards of 501 VES Road, Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024, after a heroic battle with cancer. 

Bob was born on April 29, 1935, in Eden, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 56 years, Patricia, his parents, William and Laura Edwards and his siblings, Rebecca Moore, and Harold Edwards. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Richmond Professional Institute, where he studied Business and Design. While in Richmond, he met Patricia Farley. The two were married and moved to Lynchburg to begin their long, happy life together, surrounded by many friends and family members. 

Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed a long career in sales, and he was active in civic and social organizations. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lynchburg and enjoyed working with the flower guild. His gift for design was reflected in the amazing floral arrangements he created for social occasions, his favorite being weddings for friends and family. 

Bob is survived by his daughters, Deirdre Rainey (Scott) and Anna McWane (Paul), and his two granddaughters Holly McWane and Katherine Pitts (Carson). He took great pride in “his girls,” Pat, Dee, Anna, Holly, and Katherine. He loved his family dearly and was very much looking forward to the birth of his first great grandchild—Katherine and Carson’s son—this spring. He and Pat will be smiling down when that moment comes. 

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 200 Boston Avenue, Lynchburg, Virginia 24503 with the Rev. Chris Roussell officiating. A reception will follow at the home of Anna and Paul McWane.

In lieu of flowers, please consider the Westminster Canterbury Fellowship Fund or St. John’s Episcopal Church.
