Robert Louis Hurt born Sept. 16,1961 to the late Robert Louis and Helen Allen departed this life on Feb. 1, 2022, at Lynchburg General Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marie A. Hurt, one son De’Suan Johnson, two sisters Patricia (Lil Bit) Jackson, Betty Anne Hurt, and one brother Edward Hurt.
Whimpey enjoyed spending time with his family from playing cards to riding, sightseeing, fish fry’s and car shows. He was also known for doing small engine repairs for family and friends.
He was lovingly survived by one brother Gary Hurt (Claudia) of Madison Heights, VA; three sisters Emma Hamiliton, Mary Slaughter (Charles) both of Hopewell, VA and Shirley Patillo (Russell) of Madison Heights, VA; nieces Cheryl Valentine (Taisha), Cheronda Slaughter both of Hopewell, VA, Valerie Johnson of Appomattox, VA, Tracie Hall (Jessica) of Chatham, VA, Stephanie Mabry (Cody), Latrena Hurt both of Lynchburg, VA ; a nephew Brandon Fleshman of Lynchburg, VA; and a great-nephew whom he was training to do small engine repair Elijah Davis of Appomattox, VA; and host of other loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Also survived by Mr. Clarence “Pop” Washington of Amherst, VA whom Whimpey cherished for he loved Whimpey as his own, his extended family includes Glady Thomas (Leroy), Shelvia Parrish (Mike), Raymon Patillo (Sandra), Verna Fleshman and Anthony Osborne. In addition, he is survived by his best friend William “Bill” Mayo (Nancy) of Amherst, VA; his furry friend “Jake”, the apple of his eye. Whimpey had numerous other friends too many to name to know him simply was to love him.
A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., February 5, 2022. The family will receive friends at the sister’s home.
