Robert “Bob” Maxwell “Max” Bailey, 85 of Lynchburg, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2015 at Heritage Green.

He was born October 12, 1929 in Rogersville, Tenn.; a son of the late William Bailey Sr. and Bessie Reeves Bailey.

He served his country well with a military career of 23 years in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam era. He was always ready to help others and a very caring person. Max grew up in and is a member of the Franklin Street Baptist Church (currently the Sandusky Baptist Church of Lynchburg).

Max is survived by three sisters, Barbara Bailey Arthur and her husband Dr. William “Bill” Arthur of Columbus, Ga., Betty Bailey Hanks and Mary Lee “Bailey” Ferguson, both of Lynchburg; four nephews, and one niece.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother, William “Bill” Ralph Bailey, Jr. of Farmville.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Green and Gentle Shepherd Hospice for the excellent care given to our loved one.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m., Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A funeral service will be conducted at 11a.m. immediately following visitation. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors provided by American Legion Post #16.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Max Bailey to Sandusky Baptist Church, 915 Catalina Place, Lynchburg, VA 24502.

Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
