Robert Ocie Tweedy, 82, of Lynchburg, Va. died Friday, December 16, 2016.
Born July 13, 1934 in Lynchburg, Robert was a son of the late Hunter Ocie Tweedy, Jr. and the late Helen Evans Tweedy. Bob was a good-natured and outgoing man who never met a stranger. He was an active member of the REACT Safety Club until the local club disbanded. Bob proudly raised two children while working at Babcock and Wilcox as a technician for thirty years, along with an additional job as a butcher. He went on to start his very own company, B.N. Safety Footwear, Inc., which he passionately and meticulously ran for twenty years until his health no longer allowed him to work. He left the business in the good hands of his son-in-law, Joshua Hall.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Irvin Hunter Tweedy.
Robert is survived by his children, Monica Mayberry (Roger L.) of Concord, Va. and Robert Gary Tweedy of Lynchburg, Va.;grandchildren, Rhonda Duff (Chris) of Lynchburg, Va., DeVonne Hall (Joshua) of Appomattox, Va., and Melissa Brown (Eric) of Aspen, Va.; great-grandchildren, Delaney Arthur, Joshua Ryan Hall, Jr., Madison Godsey, Rylen Brown, and Laylah Hall; sisters, Wanda Baldock of Lynchburg, Va., Wylene McGuire (George) of Lynchburg, Va., and Darnell Crouch (Alan) of Bowling Green, Va.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Robert’s life will take place at Tharp Funeral Home’s Lynchburg Chapel on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or March of Dimes, 4505 Starkey Road, Roanoke, Va. 24014.
