Robert Stanley Sturm, 74, of Rustburg, VA, entered Heaven on Saturday, March 12, 2016 after an 8 1/2 month battle with metastatic pancreatic cancer. He was the beloved husband of Janice Albright Sturm for over 52 years.
Bob was born June 7, 1941 in Canonsburg, PA, a son of the late Paul William Sturm and Margaret Sharp Sturm. He enlisted in the Air Force in January, 1962 and served his country honorably for 21 years. Upon retirement he returned to Newfield, NY and then worked for the United States Post Office for 23 years. Three years ago he and Jan moved to Rustburg, VA, where he was a member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church, where he assisted with Take My Hand Ministry that provided furniture and some household products to those who are in need.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard Paul Sturm of Spencer, NY; a daughter, Laurel Anne Rockhill of Newfield, NY; four granddaughters, Terri Martin, Jenna Baker, Rebecca Sturm, and McKenna Belden; and one grandson, Charles Rockhill IV; also by two great-granddaughters, Grace Martin and Lily St. Clair. In addition, he is survived by 2 sisters, Alice Howe of Horseheads, NY, and Shirley Fleeson (Ronald) of Temperance, MI; also a brother, William Sturm (Janet) of Pasadena, TX, and a brother-in-law Louis Albright (Marilyn) of Ithaca, NY; eight nephews and 4 nieces.
The family will receive friends at 11 AM in the chapel at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, followed by a Celebration of Bob’s life at 12 Noon on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 with Rev. Carl Weiser officiating. Interment will follow at Amelia Veterans Cemetery.
