Robert Thomas Stubbs

Robert T. Stubbs, 77, of Moneta, died at home on August 18, 2011. He was preceded in death by his father, Tom Jesse Stubbs, and brother, Donald Stubbs, both of Kansas City, Mo.; and mother, Helen Stubbs Snyder, of Moneta, who, at 103, preceded him by two weeks.

He is survived by his wife, Bette; brother, James and wife, Diane, of Kansas City, Mo.; his children, Bret of Dallas, Texas, Bruce and wife, Kelly, of Vero Beach, Fla., Keven and wife, Dori, of Racine, Wis., and stepson David Reagan and wife, Kathy, of Patrick Springs, Va. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A pilot for over 30 years, Robert flew for Braniff International Airways of Dallas, Texas. He flew both South American and American routes but was particularly honored to have flown United States troops during the Vietnam era. A Shriner, Robert was also a member of the Bedford, Va. Masonic Lodge #244 as well as former Administrator and member of the Smith Mountain Lake Moose Lodge #2346. He helped to support Franklin County's feline neutering program and also fed and protected many stray cats.

The family wishes to thank Gentle Shepherd Hospice of both Roanoke and Lynchburg for their extraordinary kindness during a difficult time. The hospice staff members were generous with their time, their knowledge, and their loving treatment.

There will be a Celebration of Life held at a future date. Contributions may be made to the Franklin County Animal Shelter on Virgil Goode Highway in Rocky Mount, Va., or to Gentle Shepherd Hospice, 6045 Peters Creek Road in Roanoke, Va.
