Robert Thomas Whalen, 51, of Lynchburg (formerly of Oswego, NY) died Friday, July 29, 2011 at his residence.
Born February 2, 1960 in Oswego, NY, Bob was the son of William Whalen and the late Betty Hunter Whalen.
Bob is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 16 years, Joan Marie Whalen; sons, Dustin, Rob, and Travis; brother, Michael (Alice Moore); sister, Michelle (Chris) Flynn; brothers- in-law, Jack (Ann) Donoghue, and Bob (Dory) Donoghue; sisters-in-law Patti Donoghue, and Sharon (Jim) Krakowka; several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews; and Brandi, his beloved pet dog.
Bob will be remembered as a man who had a big heart and made friends easily. He proudly served our country as a member of the US Army. He was a member of American Legion Post 16, the Marine Corps League and Moose Lodge Number 715.
A Celebration of Bob\"™s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Moose Lodge #715, 2307 Lakeside Drive, Lynchburg, VA.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Lynchburg Humane Society, 3305 Naval Reserve Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501, 434-846-1438.
