Robert William Taylor, 73, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on April 1, 2017 after an extended illness.

Robert was born in Skyler, Virginia on December 17, 1943. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. After his return home for Vietnam, he worked at many different jobs, but finally settled with Centra at Guggenheimer Skilled Nursing Facility for 23 years. Throughout his life, he restored older homes to their former beauty. He always said that he was a “jack of all trades, but a master of none.”

His gentle and loving nature made him the perfect Santa for many around Lynchburg. He always had a smile for the children and an ear to listen when it was needed with his friends. He was a gifted story-teller and enjoyed telling his stories along with a bible teaching or two to go with it. He loved to cook, and was always trying out new recipes on the members of his church. Robert also was an avid fisherman and loved the great outdoors. His gentle and loving nature extended to animals, and he always had a cat at his side. He actively volunteered as much as possible, and was a devoted member of Timberlake Baptist Church.

Robert is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Carroll) Taylor, his daughter, Cherish Van Schaik (Michael), 3 grandchildren: Nicole Little, Justin Heath, and William Heath. Sister Phyliss Croaker and a niece Patricia Bolton. Special mention for Wendell Carwille, his best friend and a honorary member of the family; Nancy Erby and JD Vance, two friends that were there with Robert throughout the years and also are considered members of the family; and the rest of his relatives and friends. Robert was a devoted and loving husband, father and friend that will be missed by all that knew him.
