Rodney Lee Monroe
Rodney Lee Monroe, 70, of Bedford, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at his residence. He was born April 27, 1942 in Lynchburg, VA, a son of Alpha Hildren Cumbie Monroe and the late Alfred Carlton Monroe.
Rodney served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was also a retiree of Roanoke City Public Schools.
In addition to his father, Rodney was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Owen Monroe. In addition to his mother, Rodney is survived by his wife, Judy Stevens Monroe; three daughters, Suzanne M. Stallings and her husband, Mike of Austin, TX, Sarah M. Yost and her husband, Tom of Bedford and Stacey M. DeMarsh and her husband, Howard of Bedford; and four grandchildren, Jonathan Propst, Anna Yost, Corbin Stallings and Steven Stallings.

Graveside services will be conducted at 3 PM, Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Thaxton Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Eldridge V. Cullum officiating. Military Honors will be given by the Virginia Army National Guard. The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM prior to the service at Tharp Funeral Home and other times at the homes of his daughters, Sarah and Stacey.
