Rogers Leon Taylor, 83, of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2015. He was the loving husband of Mildred Kennedy Taylor for 61 years.
Born on January 6, 1932, Rogers was a son of the late Boas Winton Taylor and the late Ila Masters Taylor. He proudly served his country for 31 years, 11 months, and 19 days in the U.S. Navy working as an engineman for most of his career. However, when he retired he had achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was very proud of his military career and served with honor and dignity.
In addition to his parents, Rogers was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Taylor, and his sister, Daisy Wauford.
Left behind to cherish Rogers’ memory are his wife, Mildred; two children, Dreama Gehman and her husband, Dean, and James R. Taylor and his wife, Susan; four grandchildren, David Gehman, Joshua Taylor and his wife, Emily Pinto Taylor, M.D., Robert Taylor, and Katelyn Taylor; four siblings, Harry Taylor and his wife, Marie, Pearlie Bolling, Ruby Atkinson, and Kathy Snead; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., Saturday, July 18, 2015, at Tharp Funeral Home in Bedford. A funeral service will be held Sunday, July 19, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist with Pastor Mark Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy.
