Ronald Duane Hale, 80, of Lynchburg, passed peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Lynchburg General Hospital with family by his side. He was the loving husband of Shirley Cox Hale for 40 years.
Ronald was born on March 19, 1936, in Roanoke, VA to the late Herbert William Hale and the late Hattie Witt Hale.
Along with his adoring wife, Shirley, Ronald is survived by his children: Billy and Karen Hale of Lynchburg, Valerie Lynn Hale of Pineville, NC, Jay and Donna Hale of Myrtle Beach, SC, Julie Warren Tilley of Cleveland, TN, and Janet and Kyle Walker of Dahlonega, GA; his grandchildren: Phillip and Amy Hale, Tracy and Michael Pickeral, Tori Hale, Samantha and Tommy DiFebbo, Aaron and Chloe Tilley, Jessie Walker, Luke Walker, and Caleb Hale; three great-grandchildren; his brother David and Virginia Hale of Roanoke; his sister-in-law Linda Owen of Cumming, GA; a special niece Sarah Owen; and many loving family members and friends.
Ronald retired from a long career with VDOT. He was a jack of all trades and a master of most. He was most likely found sitting either on the front porch or on the lawnmower. He was a faithful member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, with Pastor David Heerspink officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels of Lynchburg or Senior Life at Thomas Road Baptist Church.
