Ronald Golon DeJarnette, 83, of Lynchburg went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, November 28, 2021. He was the husband of Jean Marr DeJarnette.
Ronald was born in Halifax County, Virginia on February 21, 1938. A son of the late Drewie L. DeJarnette and Maggie Maddox DeJarnette. Ronald honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Ronald attended Lynchburg College and graduated from CVCC with a degree in Criminal Justice. He was retired as a police officer after 27 years of service to his community in the Lynchburg Police Department with the city of Lynchburg. He was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion Post #16, and member of Brookhill Wesleyan Church. Ronald loved music, which included Country and Blue Grass music. He loved God, his country, and especially his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Ronald “Matt” DeJarnette of Lynchburg, his daughters: Patricia D. Cross of Lynchburg, Rhonda D. Ellington (Randy) of Appomattox County, Jacqueline D. Raines (Chris) of Amherst County, and Mary Beth Flowers (Reggie) of Lynchburg, one brother, Drewie DeJarnette, Jr. (Debbie) of Goode, one sister Juanita DeJarnette Tyree of Lynchburg, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George C. DeJarnette and James R. DeJarnette, and one sister Betty DeJarnette Martin.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.
A Celebration of Ronald’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 3, 2021, at Brookhill Wesleyan Church with Pastor Brian Cook officiating. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park.
