Ronald Lee Wimmer, 73, of Amherst, died Sunday, February 11, 2018. He was the husband of Nina Haviland Wimmer for 28 years.
Born Tuesday, July 04, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pa., Ron was a son the late John E. Wimmer and Dorothy Cotter Wimmer.
In addition to his wife and mother, Ron is survived by two sons, Matthew Wimmer and Mark Wimmer both of Pa., two daughters, Regina Vahlberg of Ind., and Danielle Downing of Pa., a brother Glen Wimmer and wife, Margie of Pa.
Ron was an adoring husband and true friend to many, including neighbors, former co-workers and members of the Common Ground Cowboy Church. Ron served our country during the Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. Navy.
A very special note of appreciation is due to Ron’s best friend Ed Berger, who befriended Ron and daily shared his life with Ron & Nina. Ed rapidly became a family member, supporting both of them through the most difficult moments.
A very special thanks to Hospice for their compassion and care for Ron and his family, including Lee Ann, Jewel, Sarah and Tamara, all who attended to Ron throughout his battle.
A celebration of Ronald’s life will be conducted on February 27, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the Common Ground Cowboy Church, 657 Cherry Hill Rd., Amherst, Va., with Jim Fitzpatrick and Carl Davis officiating.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Madison Heights, is assisting the family.
