Services have been rescheduled due to inclement weather.  Visitation will be on Friday, December 17 from 6:00-7:00 PM and services will be Saturday, December 18 at 2:00 PM, both at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.

Ronald Preston Wood of Lynchburg, went to Heaven Tuesday, December 14, 2010, to the loving arms of his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.  He was the beloved husband of Maxine Lipscomb Wood for 54 wonderful years.  He was a loving, kind husband and father who loved everyone and never met a stranger.

Born in Lynchburg on August 2, 1932, he was the son of the late George Preston Wood and Virginia King Wood.  Ronnie was the last member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by a sister, Shirley W. Dews.

Mr. Wood was retired from the firm of Wiley & Wilson Architects & Engineers.  He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served his country during the Korean War.  He was a faithful member of Fairview Christian Church and of the Loyal Men\"™s Bible class for 54 years.  During his membership he served his church in many capacities.  He was a deacon for over 40 years, president of the Men\"™s Bible class for 8 years, President of the Congregation, a member of the Christian Men\"™s Fellowship Club and a deliverer of Meals on Wheels.  In 1992 he was awarded a plaque for \"Father of the Year\" by the church.

He is survived by his precious daughter who loved him dearly, Sherri Wood Tucker, and her husband, Randy Tucker; and two aunts, Margaret Sublett and Arlene Irby, all of Lynchburg.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 \"" 7:00 PM on Friday, December 17, 2010, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.  A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 18, 2010, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home with the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton and the Rev. Jean Reynolds officiating.  Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the Caring Fund of Fairview Christian Church, 2701 Campbell Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24501; or a charity of your choice.
