Ronald William Wright

January 24, 1953 — October 16, 2023

Ronald William Wright departed this earthly life from the comfort of his home on October 16, 2023. His loving wife was by his side. We have the blessed assurance that he is now with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Ronald was born to the late John Meredith Wright and Lucy Hughes Wright. He was raised in the fear and admonition of the Lord. He accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized and joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church. He served faithfully in various roles including usher, men’s chorus, kitchen help (chief dishwasher) and trustee until his health declined.

Ronnie was educated in the Amherst County School System. He was one of the seven African American students that integrated the public school system in Amherst County in 1962. He graduated from Amherst County High School in 1971 and attended Hampton University. He then entered the work force at Va Fiber (Greif) who he retired after 42 years of service.

On October 5, 1996, Ronald married the love of his life, Joan Pendleton. They both shared a love for fur babies of which the latest are Sophie (beagle) and Bella (cat). Ronnie was an avid hunter and fisherman. Both hobbies brought him great joy and peace. Ronnie was a gentle soul who loved his family deeply. Before his health declined you could often find him and his wife sharing with and caring for the needs of others.

In addition to his wife Joan, Ronald leaves to cherish his memory his sister Wannetta Rucker, and aunt Mabel Hughes, two nieces Meredith and Laressa Rucker, four sisters in laws Patricia Rose (Gilbert), Deborah Goins (Ralph), Denise Carter, Janis Pendleton (Wallace), there brothers in laws, John, Joe and Anthony Pendleton all of Amherst County as well as a host of other relatives and friends both near and far.

A Celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
