Rosalie Eloise Burford Craft, 86, of Forest, died Sunday, June 16, 2019. She was born on April 17, 1933 at Waugh’s Ferry Farm in Big Island, Va. She was the daughter of Jackson Gustavus “Jack” Burford and Eloise Elizabeth Woodroof Burford.
She graduated from Madison Heights High School in 1951. She married the love of her life, Billy Perroneau Craft. They were married for 65 years until Mr. Craft’s death on March 5, 2016.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Lou Anne Craft Burford, who recently died June 6, 2019. Also preceding her in death is her son Robert Wayne Craft; grandson Carter Scott Craft; and four siblings.
Rosalie is survived by her daughter Karen Craft Combs (Tony) of Charlotte and her son Kendall Scott Craft (Stacey) of Lynchburg; grandchildren Eric Collier (Amanda) of Lynchburg, Rush Combs of Boulder, Colorado, Colston Combs of Big Sky, Montana, and Addison Craft of Lynchburg, great-grandchildren Maxx Collier and Aryana Craft; sisters Aileen Young, Geraldine McConnell, and Rachel Tomlin; brother Edward Scott Burford and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Herbert and Joyce Craft.
She was a dedicated member of Beulah Baptist Church where she actively participated in her Sunday School class, Willing Workers, which became known as Kingdom Helpers, taught by Dr. Esther Wu.
Rosalie was the epitome of kindness, never having met a stranger. She was well known for her poise and grace, humility, steadfast loyalty and generosity shown to everyone who knew her. Friends and family were spoiled by her kindness and hospitality when they were in need of comfort, food, a visit, or prayers. Her inner strength and strength of character were traits all admired and relied upon during times of challenge and hardship. She and Billy were well-traveled, especially enjoying their many trips to Germany to visit their long-time friends Peter and Rose Geiss.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 5-8 p.m. at Thomas Road Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 21, 2019 at Thomas Road Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. the Rev. Jonathan Falwell will be officiating.
