Rose Marie Bucar Farrar

d. May 15, 2015

Rose Marie (Bucar) Farrar (62) of Moneta, Virginia, passed away on May 15 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. An enthusiastic advocate of everything she did, Rose Marie left the world a better place than she found it.

Rose Marie was born in Pittsburgh, PA and raised on a farm in nearby Clairton. She moved to Washington in 1971 and began a professional career that included positions in the White House, the US  Department of Energy and the American Advertising Federation.  In each assignment, she managed increasingly challenging assignments while amassing lifelong friendships.

In 1995, she relocated to Michigan and eventually became Executive Assistant to William Davidson, President and CEO of Guardian Industries and owner of the NBA Detroit Pistons.  She created and led an employee volunteer group, the “Guardian Angels”, that remains engaged in charitable activities in the Detroit area. She also served as a hospice volunteer and in leadership positions at the Clarkston (MI) United Methodist Church.  In recognition of her many efforts, Rose Marie was named Citizen of the Year in Clarkston in 2008.

n 2011, Rose Marie and Steve moved to Smith Mountain Lake, VA to a home they built and loved – and joyfully shared with family and friends. She continued her professional career by starting her own business, even as she enjoyed the benefits of swimming, jogging and walking daily with neighbors.

Throughout her life, Rose Marie was known for her boundless enthusiasm and energy. She and Steve traveled to every continent. At SML, she was an active member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and even found time to teach water aerobics to her Waverly neighbors. She was an avid reader and a born organizer of people and events. She had an easy, engaging smile and an enormous heart.

Rose Marie is survived by her beloved husband, Steve, two step children, Sheila (Juan Jose) Bermudez of Weston, FL, and Scott (Ekta) Farrar of Los Angeles, and five grandchildren, whom she adored. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Bucar of Clairton, PA, brother Larry (Debbie) Bucar of Denver, CO, and sisters Grace Hodges of Cheyenne, WY, Rebecca Bucar of Norfolk, VA, and Carol Ann Bucar of Clairton.

Memorial services will be held for Rose Marie at 11 AM Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with Rev. David W. Lord officiating.
