Rose Nell Flanagan, 78, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, January 6, 2018. She was the wife of the late Ekford Flanagan.
Nell was born May 5, 1939 in Vina, Alabama a daughter of the late James Walton Bearden and Emma Cofield Bearden. Nell worked as a skilled machinist for many years and was a member of Cornerstone Community Church.
A viewing will be held 30 minutes prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Cornerstone Community Church.
A Celebration of Nell’s Life will follow at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Cornerstone Community Church with Pastor Willie Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Allwood Cemetery in Amherst County.
She is survived by her children: Lura Jones of Lynchburg, Clarence “Buddy” Brooks (Sandy) of Amherst, daughter-in-law Brenda Brooks of Amherst, and Lester Fields of Moulton, AL, four sisters, Freida Garrison, Priscilla Payne, Judith Wright, and Pam Foster, three brothers, Thomas Bearden, Dewayne Roden, and Mark Roden, Jr., fifteen grandchildren, and a multitude of great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two sons, James Brooks and Thomas Brooks.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Madison Heights, is assisting the family.
