Roy Arlen Fleshman, 81, of Lynchburg, VA, died Thursday, October 31, 2013. He was the husband of Anne Metcalf Fleshman, for 58 years.
Born Thursday, October 20, 1932 in Lynchburg, Roy was the son of the late George Wilmer Fleshman and Ruth Lee Candler Fleshman.
In addition to his wife, Roy is survived by a son, Bruce Wayne Fleshman and his wife, Connie, of Lynchburg, a daughter, Teresa Lynne Cartwright and her husband, Hythe, of Chesapeake, VA, five grandchildren: Will Cartwright, of Lynchburg, Holly Fleshman, of Lynchburg, Rachel Call and her husband, Josh, of Cheyenne, WY, Jared Hatcher, Clover, VA, and Mackenzie Fleshman, of Lynchburg; two sisters: Mary Foster and her husband, Leslie, of Hampton, TN, and Cathy Smith, and her husband, Terry, of, Louisville, KY; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Roy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. The grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was the classic provider, who worried about the family and placed their concerns ahead of his. Roy proudly served our country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1955 he joined the Virginia State Police. He reached the rank of Captain and was Assistant Director of Criminal Investigations, retiring in 1987 after 32 years of service.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, November 03, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 04, 2013 at Fort Hill Memorial Park, with Sgt. Christopher Aikens of the Virginia State Police officiating. Honors will be provided by the Virginia State Police.
