Ruby Lee Davis, 84, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, February 28, 2025. Born on November 12, 1940, in Floyd, Virginia, she was the fourth child of Harry D. Hylton and Mary M. Hylton.
She is survived by her loving husband, Nelson; her beloved daughter, Teresa Davis Mills (Charles); her cherished grandchildren, Zach Cole (Cari) and Lauren Wood (Gene); and the joys of her life, her four great-grandchildren: Kayleigh Cole, Raynee Cole, Ruby Wood, and Davis Gene Wood. Ruby was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She delighted in decorating her home for every holiday, especially Christmas, when she showcased her extensive collection of nutcrackers. At her last count, she had over 80 nutcrackers, which she fondly referred to as "The Boys."
Ruby was a dedicated member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and the Faith Bible Fellowship Class for over 50 years. She was also a member of Woodmen of the World Chapter 7 and the Mended Hearts Chapter 16. Over the years, Ruby and Nelson attended numerous conventions across the country with these groups, forming lifelong friendships with fellow members.
Ruby had a passion for travel. Together with Nelson, she enjoyed many memorable vacations, including trips to Israel, Nassau, Bahamas, Bermuda, San Francisco, the Badlands in South Dakota, Vermont, Maine, Canada, New Orleans, and Florida (her favorite state), among many others. Ruby always eagerly anticipated the annual family vacation in Nags Head, North Carolina.
