Ruby Dooley Leftwich
Ruby Katherine Dooley Leftwich, 90, of Thaxton, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Born March 12, 1921 in Bedford County; she was a daughter of the late Henry Dooley and Hattie Witt Dooley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Otey Leftwich and her daughter, Judy Leftwich Storz.
Ruby was a homemaker and well known for her cooking. She worked with her husband operating Union Cash Grocery and later worked for 9 years at Corner Springs Nursing Home. She was a lifelong member of Union United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son, Paul Douglas \"P.D.\" Leftwich and wife, Laura Ann, of Harrisonburg; a daughter, Kathy Leftwich Baldree and husband, Tim, of Lynchburg; a sister, Lucille D. Williamson of Bedford; seven grandchildren, Stacey Leftwich Washington, Paul Leftwich, Jr., Shawn Storz, Michelle Storz Kenne, Brad Storz, Kristi Howell Shorter, and Brett Howell; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Union United Methodist Church, 5051 Union Church Road, Thaxton, VA 24174, or to the Alzheimer\"™s Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
A funeral service will be held 2 PM, Friday, March 2, 2012 in Tharp Funeral Chapel with Rev. George Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in Leftwich Clingempeel Cemetery in Union. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the visitation room at Tharp Funeral Home. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, (540)-586-3443.
