On Thursday, March 15, 11:20 a.m., the bells tolled for Ruby Lynch and she crossed over to her heavenly home. She was born on August 10, 1929, in Hamlet, North Carolina to the late Dorcy and Willie McNeil. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 1 sister, Ann Gamble, and 3 brothers, Lonnie, Willie, and Melvin McNeil In 1952, Ruby was united in holy matrimony to the late James Rudolph Lynch. To this loving union, four devoted sons were born;
Gairy and Renaldo Lynch of Lynchburg, VA, and Steve & Bernard Lynch of North Carolina.
Ruby was blessed by 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also left to mourn Ruby's memory are 2 sisters, Dorothy Gamblin of Marland, and Frances Spencer of Georgia; 1 brother, James McNeil (Barbara) of Virginia; 1 sister-in-law Joyce McNeil (Lonnie); a devoted friend/daughter-in-love, Delphia Lynch; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
A life-long member of Jackson Street United Methodist Church, Ruby served faithfully until her health failed. She was a member of many committees including the Usher Board, the 0 & E Ministry, Sunday School Teacher, Finance Committee, Choir, Umbrella Club, and The Women's' Fellowship Bible Study.
Ruby graduated high school in Hamlet, North Carolina then moved to Washington, D.C. where she met and married James Rudolph Lynch. They later moved their family to Lynchburg, Va. and she retired from General Electric. She loved people and making them smile by serving them good food since she was a great cook and an even greater baker!. She was community conscious becoming a true friend and inspiration to many who made her acquaintance, thereby becoming involved in several organizations in the community such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Alzheimer's. Memory Walk, American Heart Association, and Churches for Urban Ministry.
Celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 12:00p.m. at Jackson Street United Methodist Church. Interment to follow at Cross Road Baptist Church Memorial Garden.
